The Journal of Nutrition recently published a new review study that showed women who enjoyed 2-3 cups of coffee a day had approximately 3% lower body fat than women who do not drink coffee. There was no change in the results if the women had regular or decaf coffee. The researchers believe coffee beans contain bioactive compounds the may help the body regulate weight. The small but significant results are good news for coffee drinkers because the fat in the abdominal area is considered more harmful because of the way it wraps around internal organs.

It is essential to be mindful of the way you drink your coffee. Coffee itself is virtually calorie-free. The added ingredients are the ones that can throw you off. Sugar and creamer can make your coffee taste better, but it brings with it unwanted empty calories.

So if you are a coffee lover, grab your mug and sip away.
